Group Classes

Group classes with Kim the Dog Trainer go far beyond the basics. Your relationship with your dog will deepen as the two of you learn how to communicate with and truly understand each other. Our goal is to produce a true working partnership between human and canine - a dog who is equally at home on the hiking trail, a sidewalk cafe or curled up by your feet at the end of a busy day.

Unless otherwise noted, classes take place indoors at Southpaws Playschool's comfortable indoor facility located at 2324B South Lamar Blvd.

What Makes Classes with Kim the Dog Trainer Different?

We believe that our group obedience students deserve the same high-quality learning experience as our private clients. Class size is limited to four dogs to ensure that everyone receives individual attention. Besides the hands-on work you'll do in class, you'll receive clearly-written handouts, easy-to-follow weekly homework assignments, and phone and email support.

With our help, dogs who previously "flunked out" of large, chaotic pet-store classes learn how to handle distractions, listen to their owners and most importantly, to love working. Fearful, shy dogs gain confidence. Owners who are frustrated with their misbehaving dogs learn how to control them without nagging, bribing or threatening, and owning a dog becomes fun again.

Manners and Obedience I:

In Obedience I, we focus on the five foundation skills that dog owners find most useful in everyday life. These skills are:

  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stay
  • Come when called
  • Heel
We also cover common behavior problems including barking, jumping up on people, stealing food and barging through doors. As the weeks go by, your dog's attention span will increase and she'll become more able and willing to listen to you - no matter what! Includes one free half-hour private lesson, a $30 value. Cost: $187.50.

Next six week class begins:
Saturday, September 11 at 10:30 am (Southpaws Playschool.)

If your dog drags you down the street, or you want to enjoy your walks with your dog more, this four-week class is for you. We'll cover basic loose-leash walking and more formal heeling, including an off-leash heel. This class is especially useful for compulsive pullers and dogs who are highly distractible on-leash.
Prerequisite: Instructor permission. Call for schedule and location. Cost: $100.

Hiking and Running With Your Dog

The first session of this four-week class meets indoors, where we'll talk about obedience, fitness and safety. Then it's off to the great outdoors to practice skills like trail etiquette and leash manners.
