About Professional Dog Trainer, Kim Roche, CPDT-KA
Kim Roche is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer. Over the past two decades, she has helped thousands of dogs of all breeds, temperaments and sizes with her simple, compassionate and effective methods.
She began her career in dogs in 2001 when she was invited to apprentice with Lee Mannix at the Lee Mannix Center for Canine Behavior, eventually becoming his head trainer. In late 2004, she started her own company. She has spent time in close study with a diverse range of leading trainers and behaviorists, including a trip to England for an intensive course with John Rogerson, one of the world's most highly regarded experts in dog aggression and behavior. She continues to keep abreast of new developments in the field by attending seminars and conferences whenever her schedule permits.
Kim is shameless when she brags about her beloved Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie mix, Darren CGC, PDI, NAC, NGC, NJC. Whether he's helping to socialize an aggressive dog, showing off his skills in an obedience demonstration or working as a distraction dog in a group class, he loves his job.
Kim donates her time and services to a number of local animal rescue groups and is firmly committed to helping reduce the number of dogs and cats euthanized in Austin each year.
When Kim is not training dogs, you can find her onstage performing comedy or playing bass with her Bollywood band Sacred Cowgirls.
Professional Dog Training - Testimonials:
"Josie just had her first off-leash trip to Bull Creek and she was awesome! I just had to tell you thank you so much for the special training and the classes. The day I never thought would come has arrived. She came to me every time I called her, made sure she stayed within eyesight and she was just fantastic. Thank you so much. You're a fantastic dog trainer, and I would not be where I am today with her if it wasn't for you." – B Jane and Josie
"Kim is amazing. We got our first puppy (8 weeks old) a little less than a year ago and were completely overwhelmed. All the books we had read were either only mildly helpful or no help at all. They promoted a lot of scare tactics or physical punishment for training that made me uncomfortable and to which our cattle dog puppy just did not respond. Another ACD owner in town recommended Kim and we love her. Her practical approach to dog training is creative and positive and has helped our rambunctious puppy grow into a well behaved and well socialized teenager. I would recommend Kim to anyone." – Jessie N. and Sydney
"Kim is beyond amazing. We just moved to Austin from Dallas and moved into an apartment from a house. Our dog, Bobby, was not handling the adjustment well. He was very timid and wary when outside. Walks were not fun and potty time didn't happen except inside the apartment (he was house broken in Dallas but the rules went out the window when we moved). We went through two weeks of drama before finding Kim. She helped us understand how to work with Bobby and help him adjust. We had a different dog in just one lesson and he got better after every lesson. Everything she has suggested has worked! Bobby is much happier and adjusting great. He's back to potty time outside and walks are much more enjoyable for both of us.
Kim is the top dog trainer in Austin as far as we are concerned! She gave Bobby a much better quality of life and gave us our sanity back. She also showed us how to continue working with Bobby and keep it fun. I learned more in a few weeks with Kim than I have learned in years of dog ownership. Do yourself a favor and hire Kim." – Theo K. and Bobby
"Kim has helped us with three dogs now. Whether it's basic commands or dogs fighting each other, she knows just what the owner should do. I have come to trust what she says completely because, as long as we do what she suggests, it always seems to work. She truly understands dogs, and her methods are kind, positive and gentle." – Rick P. with Tessa and Mariah
"Kim Roche has been working with my dog Ruby in a variety of capacities for close to two years. Ruby is a high energy, extremely smart cattle dog mix. In short, she's a HANDFUL. After several unsuccessful training attempts, I wondered if I could ever get her to a place where I could manage her. But after we started working with Kim, Ruby turned around seemingly overnight. Kim gave us the tools to get the bad behavior under control. Now we can ENJOY Ruby instead of feel constantly frustrated by her. Whenever she sees Kim for training or day trips, Ruby explodes with happiness. I can't think of higher praise for Kim." – Katie C. and Ruby
"I had a very interesting experience with Greta over the weekend I had to share, and I have no doubt that it was your awesome training that allowed this story to have a happy ending.
It was about 4:00 AM the other day, and Greta needed to go outside to potty. I turned on the porch light and let her out. After taking a step or two, the both of us saw something move across the yard. I called her name and she stopped, about 20 feet away. I then noticed that she bent down and gingerly picked something up in her mouth and was just carefully holding it there. I knew this was no good, and whatever that was... it shouldn't have been in her mouth. Unfortunately because I was half asleep, I did not ask her to "leave it" as you taught us. Instead I said "Greta no." She then put down whatever it was she had in her mouth and came right to me when I called her. I sent her inside and went to get some flip flops and a flashlight. I then came back outside, looked near the area Greta was at, and watched an adolescent possum un-ball itself and then creep under our deck. It must have played dead before Greta picked it up.
Even when she was literally face-to-face with a wild creature Greta still listened to my commands. There is no way that would have happened before we took your class. Thank you so much!!" – David S. and Greta
"Our little family started training with Kim right after we got our dog Cleo from Town Lake Animal Center. Though both my husband and I had family dogs, she was our first dog that was 100% our responsibility. We were concerned about Cleo, who looked like she had pit bull in her and had a lot of nervous energy. She'd never had any structure in her life before, and we wanted to introduce it early. Almost 2 years later, we couldn't ask for a better dog - or a better trainer! Cleo responds to Kim in an amazing way, but more importantly she taught us how to be good "parents". She's stood by us through it all, even after Cleo's vet diagnosed her with obsessive compulsive disorder. I don't know what our life would be like had we not started with Kim right from the beginning!" – Kristina B. and Cleo
"With Kim's guidance, Carver is a much happier dog :) :) He's come a long long way. Thank you so much!" – Jillian S. and Carver
"When I first adopted Gretchen, I came home with 60 pounds of fear, timidity, and neurotic behavior hiding a loving heart. With Kim's training in class, I became equipped to nurture that heart and allay much of that fear. Kim's gentle, consistent, and creative approach has helped Gretchen learn to trust and play. While Gretchen will always be shy, she is well on her way to being a confident, obedient, and affectionate companion. Thanks, Kim, for helping Gretchen and I become best friends!" – Michelle L. and Gretchen
"Kim has done a tremendous job with my rescue lab, Jake. Jake's been familiar with a mid day walk routine with other walkers/trainers. However, as a true "mama's boy", he would always want to stay with me if I happened to be home when people came to take him out. I knew Kim was really different when I happened to be home one day and Jake RAN to her car ready to go to the park! I was shocked that he was so excited to go - and without me!!! Kim has helped make Jake a happier and healthier dog through exercise and behavior modification. She is a wonderful behavioral trainer, personal trainer and leader of the pack! We couldn't be happier!!!" – Tanya P. and Jake
"You've really offered many ways for us to practice and enjoy our times together. The weekly instruction and handouts will help me reinforce the habits we both need to instill in different locations. We appreciate your time so much." – Anne C. and Radar
"Kim is a wonderful influence on my rescued dog, Treasure. Kim's patience helped bring Treasure from a place of insecurity, shyness and fear of men to being a confident dog and a wonderful companion for her humans!" – Zoe Irene and Stan V.Z. and Treasure
